Climate Fast Forward 2024 - Presenters

Keynote Speaker - Kyle Whyte

Kyle Whyte is George Willis Pack Professor of Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan. Kyle’s research addresses moral and political issues concerning climate policy and indigenous peoples, the ethics of cooperative relationships between Indigenous peoples and science organizations, and problems of Indigenous justice in public and academic discussions of food sovereignty, environmental justice, and the anthropocene. He is an enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation.

Kyle currently serves on the White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council. He has served as an author for the U.S. Global Change Research Program, and is a former member of the Advisory Committee on Climate Change and Natural Resource Science in the U.S. Department of Interior and of two environmental justice work groups convened by past state governors of Michigan.

Kyle is involved with a number organizations that advance Indigenous research and education methodologies and environmental justice, including the Climate and Traditional Knowledges Workgroup, the Sustainable Development Institute of the College of Menominee Nation, the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians, Michigan Environmental Justice Coalition, Pesticide Action Network, and Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga New Zealand’s Māori Centre of Research Excellence.

Kyle’s work has received the Bunyan Bryant Award for Academic Excellence from Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice, Michigan State University’s Distinguished Partnership and Engaged Scholarship awards, and grants from the National Science Foundation.

 

Conference Presenters

Lindsay Blumer is a respected nonprofit organization professional with over 20 years of experience in executive leadership, strategic planning, entrepreneurship, social enterprise and innovation.

As WLGCC’s Executive Director, Allison is responsible for leading the management and operations of our member-led coalition.

Natalie Chin (she/her) is Wisconsin Sea Grant’s Climate and Tourism Outreach Specialist, based at the Lake Superior Field Office in Superior, WI.

Fred Clark is the former Executive Director of Wisconsin's Green Fire and lives in Bayfield. In a 35-year career in Wisconsin conservation, Fred has worked as a forest ecologist, a forester, and as a land conservation consultant.

Abigail Corso is the Chief Strategy Officer at Elevate.  In this role, she oversees Elevate new program development including decarbonization projects for affordable housing, municipal technical assistance, and impact capital programs.

Dr. Rose Daily serves as the Sustainability Coordinator of the City of Sun Prairie – one of the fastest growing cities in the state of Wisconsin.

Dr. Carly Ebben Eaton is the Wisconsin Policy Manager at the BlueGreen Alliance. In this role, she leads BGA's labor-environmental coalition and policy work in the state. Carly is a scientist by training, and she earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Northwestern University while studying chemistry relevant to air quality and climate.

Chris Ester serves as the lead hydrologist for the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest with a primary focus on building flood resilient and fish passable culverts and bridges across the Forest’s 5,000 miles of open public roads and trails.

Kahya Fox has been the Executive Director at Habitat for Humanity of the Greater La Crosse Region in La Crosse, Wisconsin, since 2016. Before taking on that role, Kahya was the Housing Assistant Director for Couleecap, Inc.

Susan Gaeddert (she/her) is Community Programs Director at 1000 Friends of Wisconsin, where she runs Active Wisconsin, facilitates the Community Transportation Academy, and serves as Coordinator for the Wisconsin Climate Table.

Dominic W. Holt (he/him) is the coordinator of the Wisconsin Initiative on Climate Change Impacts (WICCI) — a collaboration between the University of Wisconsin – Madison’s Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) — and a stakeholder engagement and policy coordinator with the DNR Bureau of Environmental Analysis and Sustainability.

Matt Hudson is Associate Director-Great Lakes with the Mary Griggs Burke Center for Freshwater Innovation at Northland College.

Ann Kipper (she/her) is the Division Administrator for the External Services Division at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and is also the co-director of the Wisconsin Initiative on Climate Change Impacts (WICCI)

Alex Latzka (he/him) is a Fisheries Systems Biologist for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, where he coordinates statewide programs related to inland fishery monitoring and research, and has recently been involved in recent large-scale projects on panfish, muskellunge, walleye, and trout.

Robin Lisowski is Managing Director of Policy at Slipstream, where she leads the organization’s public policy efforts in service of its mission to accelerate climate solutions for everyone.

Sarah Lloyd farms with her husband Nels Nelson outside Wisconsin Dells. They are currently in transition from a multi-family dairy farm to new agricultural enterprise and conservation pursuits on their land.

Madeline Magee (she/her) is the monitoring and resiliency lead for the Great Lakes and Mississippi River at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Office of Great Waters.

With nearly 20 years of experience in Corporate America, Montré has built a robust career as a solutions-focused executive. His expertise spans executive management, environmental justice, project management, environmental equity planning, government relations, and market development, with a deep commitment to the states of the Midwest.

 

Francisco J. Sayu is the Vice President of Productivity and Sustainability at the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), where he spearheads efforts to help businesses, communities, and residents across Wisconsin harness the economic opportunities of the clean energy economy.

Steven Schrage is the Sustainability and Resiliency Manager for the City of Appleton, where he leads the city's conservation and climate initiatives.

Erick Shambarger is the Director of Environmental Sustainability for the City of Milwaukee, where he leads the Environmental Collaboration Office (ECO).

Kaleb Vander Wiele is from WisDOT’s Division of Budget and Strategic Initiatives and is WisDOT’s Transportation Electrification Project Manager. In his current role he has been tasked with leading WisDOT’s effort in preparing for the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program.

Katherine (Kata) Young, Natural Climate Solutions Manager at Clean Wisconsin, leads the organization’s emerging work on nature-based solutions for climate change mitigation, adaptation and policy development.
