Exhibiting Artists

Lynn Nyhart

Lynn Nyhart's research is focused on the history of biology in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, primarily in Europe. She is especially interested in the history of investigation into the organization of living things, the social organization of the sciences that study them, and relations between elite and popular science.

Daniel John O'Neal

Daniel John O'Neal is a painter from Stevens Point, Wisconsin known for his meticulously rendered realist work in oils. He received a BFA from Western Illinois University in 1978, and an MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1983. In 2003, at the age of 47, O'Neal suddenly lost most of the vision in his left eye to macular degeneration. Despite this devastating event, O'Neal persevered in the studio and has returned to painting full time.

Jill Olm

Jill Olm, Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, received her MFA degree in painting from Syracuse University. Jill explores mark-making and repetition in her paintings, drawings, and site-specific works.

Masako Onodera

Masako Onodera is an artist who utilizes craft techniques and connects the audience emotionally to the materials and practices employed. Her creations suggest an experience of the body altered by the tactile and visual characteristics of the object.

Heidi Parkes

Before Heidi Parkes (Milwaukee) was born in Chicago in 1982, her grandmother organized a collaborative family quilt to commemorate her birth. Now based in Milwaukee, her quilting and mending celebrate the hand, and her works tug at memories and shared experience. Often using specific textiles, like an heirloom tablecloth, bed sheet, or cloth tea bag, Heidi adds subtle meaning and material memory from the start.

Sara Parrell

Sara Parrell is a poet and community health nurse, working in the Madison Public Schools with a focus on children’s mental health and well-being, and teaching students from the University of Wisconsin School of Nursing.

Livija Patikne

Photographer James Brozek and Debra Brehmer of the Portrait Society Gallery in Milwaukee joined forces to bring Livija Patikne’s photographs to the light. Fifteen years ago, Brozek was given a box of slides by an apartment manager who was closing out the residence of an elderly tenant. Recalling that he "felt something" for this body of non-descript slides, he kept them.

Nathan Pearce

Nathan Pearce was born in Fairfield, Illinois, a rural farming community in the southern part of the state. Beginning at age eighteen, he spent several years living on both coasts and decided to return to Fairfield when he was twenty-five. What he discovered was a place that was far more interesting than he’d remembered it and one he was compelled to photograph.
