Photographer James Brozek and Debra Brehmer of the Portrait Society Gallery in Milwaukee joined forces to bring Livija Patikne’s photographs to the light. Fifteen years ago, Brozek was given a box of slides by an apartment manager who was closing out the residence of an elderly tenant. Recalling that he "felt something" for this body of non-descript slides, he kept them. Little is known about Livija Patikne (1911-2001), the Latvian-American woman whose still-life compositions and self-portraits offer a poignant view of her private artistic pursuit.
