Location
Join the Wisconsin Academy and Dr. Hannah Wagie in collaboration with Mead Public Library to explore the wonders of Wisconsin’s sand dunes and beaches.
In her talk, Wisconsin Treasures Beneath Your Feet, Dr. Wagie will examine the life of silicon dioxide, the molecule that makes up the major component of sand and glass. This inorganic material comes alive once it is recognized as an overlooked gem (literally!). She will take you on a tour from huge sand dunes to microscopic glass skeletons that will inspire you to take a closer look at the world around you.
This is a free, hybrid event. In-person guests will have the opportunity to examine sand through microscopes. Starting at 6 pm, in-person guests will also be able to enjoy light refreshments prior to the presentation. Online guests will be able to join us via Zoom for the presentation which will be followed by a Q&A session.
Reception: 6:00pm-7:00pm
