Sandra Postel, director of the Global Water Policy Project, discusses local and global water challenges as part of the Wisconsin Academy’s renewed Waters of Wisconsin Initiative. Postel founded the Global Water Policy Project in 1994 witha mission is to promote the preservation and sustainable use of Earth's fresh water. Postel has been a leading voice on water issues for thirty years and is the author of the book Last Oasis: Facing Water Scarcity. In 2010, she was appointed Freshwater Fellow of the National Geographic Society, where she serves as lead water expert for its Freshwater Initiative. She is also a Pew Scholar in Conservation and the Environment. Her talk on behalf of the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters, with support from the Madison Community Foundation, was recorded on April 9, 2013, in the Capitol Theater in Overture Center for the Arts.
