Brandon Norsted is an artist with a varied, exploratory practice. Having trained originally as a furniture-maker, working most in wood, he now has chosen to not limit his scope of expression to a material or any particular mechanism of making. He is committed to supporting the making and viewing of non-commercial art, and to that end maintains a backyard art space that has not earned him a dollar, but many new friends. Norsted attended graduate school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, receiving his M.F.A. in 2009, and has attended residencies at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Skowhegan, Maine, and at Ragdale, a nonprofit artists' retreat in Lake Forest, Illinois.
