Join Madison College, in partnership with the Wisconsin Academy, for Capital Verses, featuring two-time Austin Poetry Slam Champion, the 2022 Texas Grand Slam Champion, and the author of the poetry collection Golden Brown Skin, Andre Bradford, a.k.a S.C. Says at Madison College, Goodman South Campus. He has toured and featured at venues and universities across the country, and his work has been featured in the Huffington Post, Write About Now, The Edge radio, The Culture Trip, and Blavity. His poetry covers various topics ranging from being mixed race to social justice, mental health awareness, and never settling in relationships.

Capital Verses is a part of Bloom: a season of poetry, a series of poetry events in early 2024 connecting and celebrating literary Wisconsin. Other events will include:

Poetry & Pi(e) – Join the Wisconsin Academy on Thursday, March 14 for a night of poetry and pie in partnership with Chippewa Valley Writers Guild, and the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library, featuring Nicholas Gulig, Wisconsin Poet Laureate; Max Garland, renowned poet and Academy Fellow; and poet Elan Mccallum. 

National Poetry Month – April, during which will we amplify poetry events taking place across Wisconsin, by showcasing these in our communications and partnering with organizations throughout Wisconsin. 

Climate Change Story Slam – Storytellers from around Wisconsin will gather to share stories about how climate change has affected their lives, how they have coped, and what they're doing about it on Saturday, April 20. Stories may range from one-time encounters with the effects of climate change, to careers dedicated to fighting for a safe and sustainable environmental future. Come celebrate Earth Day by joining the conversation and holding space for the kind of stories that inspire people to act. This event is in partnership with Mad City Story Slam

Poetry and the Natural World, with United States Poet Laureate Ada Limón – The Academy is bringing U.S. Poet Laureate Ada Limón to Madison for a reading and a book signing on Thursday, May 23, 2024, 7-8:30 pm, at the Overture Center for the Arts in Madison, Wisconsin. This event, focuses on the connections between nature, the changing environment, and poetry. Through Limón’s work, the Academy will bring people together to explore these themes and the intersection of the letters and sciences.  Limón will be joined on stage for a Q&A moderated by Dr. Kimberly Blaeser, Academy Fellow and former Wisconsin Poet Laureate.

He's toured and featured at venues and universities across the country, and his work has been featured in the Huffington Post, Write About Now, The Edge radio, The Culture Trip, and Blavity.
