Betty Harris Custer, a native of Madison, Wisconsin, has been working in the financial planning profession for 52 years as both the founder and owner of her own financial planning practice, Custer Financial Services, founded in 1981, and as a senior manager for several nationwide firms. She was the first female Regional Vice President for Investor’s Life as part of INA. She joined Lincoln Financial Advisors (LFA) in 1984 and served as one of its first female regional managers for almost eight years. She has been a member of LFA's high achiever's Chairman's Council, as well as a lifetime member of the Board of LFA's group of top financial planners, The Resource Group. She is a member of LFA’s WISE group (Women Inspiring, Supporting and Educating) and WIFS (Women in Insurance and Financial Services), where she has been an Emerald and Diamond Level Planner.
She is extremely active in the community as past chair of the Board of the Overture Center Foundation, as well as a member of the Chazen Museum of Art’s Advisory Council. She also is on the Capital Cabinet for the Center for Black Excellence and Culture, and assists other non-profits with fundraising. She is also on the Foundation Board of the Wisconsin Academy of Science, Arts and Letters. And she is co-chairing the Capital Campaign for the Overture Center for the Arts, Her honors include: Professional Businesswoman of the Year; YWCA of Madison Women of Distinction; Wisconsin Governor Supporter of the Arts; and Association of Fundraising Professionals Volunteer Fundraiser award. In 2015, Betty was one of 23 women profiled in WIFS’s book, “Financial Services: Women at the Top.”
