On November 8, 2019, the Wisconsin Academy and partners brought together the state's best strategic thinkers on climate change for a working conference designed to "fast forward" solutions for a more sustainable Wisconsin and world. Climate Fast Forward was a different kind of conference, one that leverages collaboration and crowdsourcing in the pursuit of ready-to-go solutions for carbon reduction and climate resilience.
Over 300 leaders from a variety of sectors—government, tribal nations, advocacy, the sciences, business, utilities, and arts and culture, as well as citizens from all walks of life—came together to develop key recommendations for how Wisconsin can become a clean energy leader with a practical plan to deal with climate change. These key recommendations from the Climate Fast Forward conference soon will be shared with top-level decision makers, the media, and the general public as a call to fast-track our response to climate change and its impacts.

As a working conference that is specifically designed to generate solutions and recommendations, our track leaders have written the white papers as a starting point for the day’s discussions. We hope that you will find them useful as a way to get your wheels turning beforehand—especially since we are on a tight timeline for the day of the event! In order to make the event more accessible to all participants, the white papers are also intended to provide a common foundation of knowledge that all can draw from as they launch into conversations in the breakout tracks. All of the content of the white papers is up for discussion in the breakout tracks; none of it is set in stone.
Can I switch to a different track after lunch?
Please plan to stay in the track you selected during registration (which will be indicated on your name tag that you will receive at event check-in). Climate Fast Forward is designed as a working conference with breakout tracks that will zoom in on five different topics. Each track will follow an innovative, facilitated process that will build from start to finish and synthesize the direct, co-generated ideas of all participants into recommendations and solutions that will ultimately be shared with decision-makers around the state—both at the conference and at a follow-up briefing on January 15th, 2020 that will be open to the general public and a variety of invited policymakers. As such, we strongly recommend that all participants stick with their track throughout the day to see the process through, beginning to end.
